10th July 2013 - Full Governing Body Meeting

Tonight was the last full governors meeting of the 2012/2013 School Year and what a year it has been!

The school successfully achieved the Stephen Lawrence Level 2 Award which is a brilliant achievement and I would like to thank all those involved in achieving this.

We analysed the results from the school year and are very pleased to report that there has been an excellent level of achievement in the Foundation Stage. Key Stage 1 sees results way above national expectations. Key Stage 2 again sees children achieving not only level 5 but level 6 results in Reading and in Mathematics!

The group reviewed the school Development Plan and provided feedback for items to be included. We discussed the overall budget of the school and where money has been spent and were informed of repairs to be performed around school during the summer holidays including a fence being relocated between Foundation and Year 1 to create a larger outdoor provision for Year 1.

Part of our discussions involved the new development within the village and the potential impact that this will have on the school and the Village. New children coming in to the village has a potential impact to an oversubscribed school. This conversation lead to the Neighbourhood Development Plan and the school is keen to involve pupils from school in the formulating of the plan to focus on their community. One of the parent governors will be discussing this with the Methley Residents Association with a hope that the school can get involved - so watch this space.

The school welcomes 4 new teachers in September and makes 2 temporary staff permanent members. We also enjoy the return of a number of teachers from maternity leave too. Today all the children learnt of their new teachers/classes for next year and jump up day was a huge success. We also unfortunately lose a valuable member of the team and we wish them well in their new post and thank them for all their time at Methley Primary.

We also say a massive thanks to all those people involved in the School Summer Fair. Thanks to the PTA (and their three members ), school and supporters raised a tremendous £1400. All this money goes back into the school to support the children in their development. We are desperate for new members to join the PTA. Please remember that you don't have to be a parent, just a willing hand and the ability to roll your sleeves up and get involved. For further information please contact Mrs Rothwell, Ann Neal or myself.

We hope you have a wonderful summer.
